Vunobolki Returns to PDP, Cites Commitment to Internal Democracy

Yola, Adamawa State — April 23, 2026

Chief Maurice Vunobolki, one of the top contending aspirants for the Governorship seat of Adamawa state, has formally announced his return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), just a week after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Vunobolki said his decision to leave the APC on April 14—barely three weeks after joining—was driven by “personal principle and fidelity to conscience,” citing concerns over internal party practices that he said fell short of democratic standards.

He noted that issues around fairness, transparency, and equal opportunity for members to participate in party processes informed his exit from the APC, stressing that political platforms must reflect the democratic ideals they promote.

Following his resignation, the governorship aspirant said he undertook extensive consultations with supporters, political associates, and stakeholders across both state and national levels.

“Those engagements reaffirmed a shared commitment to equity and genuine democratic participation,” he said.

Vunobolki disclosed that the consultations culminated in a collective decision to return to the PDP, which he described as a more open and inclusive platform that allows members to freely pursue their political aspirations.

He also revealed that he and approximately 3,000 of his supporters have completed their electronic registration with the PDP as of April 19.

He called on his followers to immediately register with the party, signaling a consolidation of his political base within the PDP ahead of future engagements.

Vunobolki a respected development expert among International development institutions and partners expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership at both state and national levels for fostering what he described as an enabling democratic environment, while also thanking his supporters for their “patience, resilience, and unwavering belief.”

Answering questions from joirnalists, he reaffirmed his political focus, pledged to contribute to the development of Adamawa State through inclusive governance, transparent leadership, and policies aimed at expanding opportunities, particularly for youth, women, and grassroots communities.
