Bishop Mamza Visits Fortland Orthopaedic Hospital, Donates Wheelchairs to Patients in Yola

Yola, Adamawa State —  March 27, 2026

The Catholic Diocese of Yola, led by Most Rev. Stephen Dami Mamza, has once again demonstrated its commitment to humanitarian service with a pastoral and outreach visit to Fortland Orthopaedic Hospital in Jimeta-Yola.

The visit, which took place at the hospital located along Galadima Aminu Way, highlighted the Church’s ongoing mission to support vulnerable populations and strengthen collaboration with healthcare providers in the region.

During the visit, Bishop Mamza interacted with medical personnel and patients, offering words of encouragement and solidarity. The visit also aimed to deepen the relationship between the Diocese and the healthcare community while addressing the needs of individuals facing mobility challenges.

The Bishop was received by Dr. Fashe, a consultant at the hospital, who expressed gratitude for the Diocese’s consistent support and advocacy for the sick and physically challenged.

A major highlight of the visit was the formal presentation of a consignment of wheelchairs to the hospital. The donation is intended to support patients with mobility impairments and improve access to rehabilitation services.

The wheelchairs were donated through the generosity of the Knights of Columbus, a global Catholic organization known for its charitable work.

The donation forms part of the Global Wheelchair Mission, a collaborative humanitarian initiative involving the Knights of Columbus, the American Wheelchair Mission, and the Canadian Wheelchair Foundation.

Since its establishment in 2003, the initiative has distributed over 100,000 wheelchairs worldwide, benefiting children, adults with disabilities, the elderly, and military veterans.

The donation is expected to significantly enhance patient care at Fortland Orthopaedic Hospital by improving mobility and independence for beneficiaries. It also strengthens the hospital’s capacity to serve underserved individuals in Adamawa State and beyond.

Bishop Mamza’s visit underscores the Catholic Diocese of Yola’s dedication to promoting human dignity, improving healthcare access, and supporting those in need.

The event stands as a powerful example of faith-driven humanitarian action, bringing hope and practical support to some of the most vulnerable members of society.
