Homecoming and Realignment: Vunobolki’s Strategic move to the APC.
Numan, Adamawa State - February 28, ,,2026
As February draws to a close, so too does Chief Dr. Maurice Vunobolki’s chapter in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a move that has stirred political conversations across Adamawa State, the influential political figure has formally resigned from the PDP and rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC). He presented his resignation letter to his Ward 2 Chairman in Numan, Hon. Niyamso Jeremond
The announcement followed a stakeholders’ meeting held in his Ward 2 constituency in Numan Local Government Area, where party leaders, supporters, and community members gathered to deliberate on the political future of their bloc.
For Vunobolki, this is not a new beginning but what he describes as “a strategic political move.” A founding member of the APC, he played a prominent role in the party’s early successes. He was an APC National Delegate in 2018, and contested as a Southern Senatorial aspirant in 2019.He later left the APC, citing concerns over internal democracy at the time, and joined the PDP in solidarity with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri.
Within the PDP, Vunobolki became a visible and active supporter, working closely with party structures across the state. His latest move, however, comes after extensive consultations at ward, local government, and state levels. According to him, the protracted internal crisis and ongoing legal battles within the PDP created uncertainty about the party’s direction and stability.
Vunobolki framed his defection not merely as a political calculation, but as a strategic realignment. He expressed solidarity with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s movement toward the political center and described the unfolding shift as a significant moment in Adamawa’s political history, with a Governor who has delivered the dividend of democracy to his people in every measure of assessment.
Political defections are not uncommon in Nigeria’s evolving democracy. Yet Vunobolki’s transition carries symbolic weight, given his longstanding influence and grassroots structure in Numan Federation of Adamawa State.
Reaffirming his political ambition, Vunobolki declared his intention to still pursue his intention under the APC platform. He called on his supporters and “all people of goodwill” in Adamawa State to join the APC and participate in the party’s ongoing registration process, describing it as a step toward strengthening democratic participation and governance.

Expressing their views during the meeting, the stakeholders unanimously described Vunobolki’s defection as a step in the right direction, pledging their unflinching support and loyalty to his political decision and future engagements.
With this development, Adamawa’s political landscape appears poised for further realignments in the months ahead, as this shift signals a broader consolidation of forces in the state.
What is clear now, is that Chief Maurice Vunobolki has once again positioned himself at the center of the state’s unfolding political narrative.
