NOA Condemns Mob Killing in Ilorin, Calls for End to Jungle Justice
Abuja, Nigeria - August 22, 2025
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has condemned in strong terms the mob attack that led to the death of a woman at Ipata Market in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The victim, believed to be a destitute, was accused of child kidnapping and beaten by a mob before police officers intervened and evacuated her to the General Hospital, Ilorin. She, however, died from her injuries.
Reacting to the incident, the Director General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the attack as “barbaric” and a direct violation of Nigeria’s national values and the principles contained in the National Value Charter.“This gruesome act undermines the rule of law, threatens public safety, and perpetuates fear and lawlessness,” Issa-Onilu said, stressing that only constitutionally recognized institutions have the authority to investigate and prosecute alleged crimes.
The agency expressed support for the Kwara State Police Command in its condemnation of the act and urged citizens to remain calm, vigilant, and law-abiding.
NOA further noted that the incident highlights the urgent need for intensified public education on civic responsibility, conflict resolution, and respect for human life. As part of its National Reorientation Campaign, the agency pledged to work closely with community leaders, security agencies, and the media to discourage mob action and strengthen public trust in law enforcement.
“We must embrace empathy, patience, and patriotism in handling matters of public concern,” the agency said in a statement signed by its Director of Communication and Media, Bala Musa.
The agency called on Nigerians to work together in building a society where justice is pursued through lawful channels and the dignity of every citizen is upheld.
