Kaduna Youths Protest Killing of Resident by Security Operatives, Block Highway

Kaduna, Nigeria – August 12, 2025

Tensions flared in the Barnawa area of Kaduna on Monday evening as youths barricaded major highways and set tyres ablaze to protest the alleged killing of a resident by security operatives.

The unrest followed a raid by the Special Joint Task Force (SJTF), comprising officers from the army, police, DSS, NDLEA, and NSCDC, on a suspected criminal hideout near Barnawa Market. Details remain unclear, but a young man was reportedly killed during the operation.

Authorities have yet to disclose the victim’s identity or confirm whether he was deliberately targeted or struck by a stray bullet. Enraged by the incident, youths took to the streets, blocking key roads and disrupting traffic between Barnawa and other parts of the city. Protesters demanded justice, accusing security forces of using excessive force.

Police reinforcements were deployed to restore order. Kaduna Police Spokesperson Mansir Hassan confirmed the incident, stating:

“Yes, we have received information about the incident, and the Commissioner of Police has ordered a full-scale investigation into the matter.”

The situation remains under watch as authorities work to prevent further escalation.
