Bishop Mamza Charges Youths to Uphold Honesty at CYON Pre–National Youth Day in Yola

 Yola, Nigeria – August 16, 2025

The Catholic Bishop of Yola Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Stephen Dami Mamza, has called on young people to be good ambassadors of the Church and society by embracing honesty and integrity in all their actions.

The bishop made the call on Friday during the Opening Mass of the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) Jos Ecclesiastical Province Pre–National Youth Day 2025, held at St. Theresa’s Cathedral, Yola.

Addressing the congregation, Bishop Mamza spoke on the recent communal crisis in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State were he urged community members to embrace peace and not violence. 

He urged youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of violence by politicians, stressing the need to always choose peace and unity.

The Provincial Chaplain Rev. Fr. Naron Hoomsuk Leotuknaan, in an interview with journalists, revealed that the Jos Ecclesiastical Province will host the 2026 National Youth Day in Jos. 

He said preparations are already underway and encouraged participants to use this year’s gathering as a platform for spiritual, moral, and organizational readiness.

Highlights of the three-day event included the unveiling of the National Youth Day logo, cultural displays, sports competitions, a talk on the Catholic Catechism, a youth talent showcase, praise and worship sessions, a candlelight procession, and a panel discussion on youth participation in Church and society.

The celebration brought together Catholic youths from across the province, fostering unity, cultural exchange, and renewed commitment to Christian values.
