NOA Adamawa Issues Flood Alert, Calls for Public Vigilance and Immediate Preparedness

Yola, Adamawa- July 17, 2025

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), Adamawa State Directorate, has issued an urgent advisory to residents, particularly those in flood-prone communities, to take proactive measures as heavy rainfall and potential flooding loom across the state.

This warning aligns with recent forecasts by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), predicting intense rainfall and possible flooding in Adamawa and other northern states.

Mr. Richard Bala Dangari, State Director of NOA Adamawa, emphasized the gravity of the situation, urging communities especially those near riverbanks and low-lying areas to remain vigilant.

"Flooding can cause severe damage if preventive steps are delayed. We advise early relocation for at-risk households and proper clearance of drainage systems to minimize impact," he stated.

NOA Adamawa urges traditional rulers, religious leaders, community heads, and local safety groups to actively disseminate flood preparedness information and collaborate with government efforts. Residents are advised to:

Avoid dumping waste in waterways or blocking drainage systems.

Monitor weather updates via official channels (NiMet, NEMA, NOA).

Evacuate promptly from high-risk zones if warnings are issued.

Report rising water levels or emergencies to local authorities.

The Agency reaffirms its partnership with emergency responders and media outlets to ensure timely public awareness. "Collective action is key to safeguarding lives and property," added Mrs. Manugarcha Daniel, Head of Media and Communication.
