Benue State Launches Quick Response Squad to Combat Rising Insecurity
Makurdi, Nigeria– July 8, 2025
In a decisive move to address escalating security challenges, Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has officially launched the Quick Response Squad (QRS), a specialized security unit designed to enhance rapid intervention across the state.
The newly inaugurated QRS is a multi-agency task force integrating personnel from:The Civilian Protection Guard (CPG)
Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN)
Local hunters
Joint Task Force (JTF)
This collaborative approach ensures a swift, coordinated response to security threats, particularly in vulnerable rural communities grappling with farmers-herders clashes, kidnappings, and armed banditry.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr. Sam Ode, Governor Alia emphasized that the QRS initiative aligns with his administration’s broader agenda to restore stability and safeguard livelihoods in Benue.
"This squad is a critical step toward securing our people and enabling farmers to return to their fields without fear. We urge communities to support this effort by reporting suspicious activities promptly," the Governor stated.
As part of the QRS operational focus it will:
✔ Deploy rapid-response units to identified hotspots
✔ Strengthen intelligence-gathering with local networks
✔ Work alongside federal security operatives, including Operation Whirl Stroke
Recall that, Benue has endured prolonged insecurity, displacing thousands and disrupting agriculture, the state’s economic backbone. The QRS aims to close security gaps while complementing existing measures.
The success of the QRS hinges on adequate funding, training, and community trust. Observers note that neutrality in operations will be vital to avoid politicization.
