Major Power Outage Planned for Northeast Nigeria to Facilitate Grid Upgrades
Yola, Nigeria – June 10, 2025
Residents and businesses across parts of Adamawa, Borno, Taraba, and Yobe States are set to experience a significant power interruption this week to allow for critical upgrades to the national transmission infrastructure.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), in coordination with the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC), announced a planned power outage commencing at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, and lasting until 5:00 PM on Saturday, June 14, 2025.According to a statement released by YEDC, the outage is necessary to undertake major engineering works on two key transmission lines: the Jos-Gombe 330kV line and the Jos-Bauchi-Gombe 132kV line.Key activities during this period include:
Installation of new towers at the Bauchi 330kV Transmission Station.
Crossing of the existing 132kV line.
Areas to be Directly Affected (No Supply):
Damaturu Injection Substation
Molai Injection Substation
Yola Injection Substation
Jalingo Injection Substation
Customers supplied from these substations will experience a complete loss of power for the duration of the works.
However, there areas with Alternative Supply these includes:
Biu: Will receive supply from the Dadi Kowa Hydro Power Plant.
Baga Road Substation (Maiduguri): Will be back-fed from the Maiduguri Emergency Power Project (MEPP).
Nguru, Machina, and Environs: Will be supplied via the 33kV Nguru feeder.
TCN emphasized that this work is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the regional transmission network, aiming to improve the long-term stability and reliability of electricity supply in the Northeast. YEDC confirmed it is fully supporting TCN's initiative.
"We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding during this period," stated the management in the notice. They assured customers that normal power supply will be "promptly restored upon confirmation that the work is completed."
