The Tragic Easter Day Accident in Biliri, Gombe State

Yola, Adamawa- April 22, 2025

The peaceful Easter celebrations in Biliri, Gombe State, were marred by tragedy on 19th April 2025, when a truck carrying passengers and goods veered into a crowd of worshippers commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. The horrific incident resulted in multiple fatalities, leaving the community in deep mourning, while the injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.  

The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation, though eyewitnesses have disputed initial claims of brake failure, alleging instead that the driver acted deliberately. The shocking nature of the event has left residents in a state of disbelief, with many gathering in groups to process the devastating occurrence. In a wave of anger, some locals retaliated by setting the truck ablaze.  

As of the time of this report, the Biliri Police Command has assured the public that all necessary measures are being taken to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident. Authorities have also appealed for calm and restraint across the Biliri Local Government Area to prevent further unrest.  

The incident has ignited widespread discussions across Nigeria, with many calling for stricter measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
