Heartfelt Tribute to Thomas Godwin Zamfara and a Call for Justice

Hong- Adamawa State, April 17, 2025

The tragic death of Thomas Godwin Zamfara has left an indelible mark on the hearts of many in Adamawa State. The outpouring of grief witnessed during his funeral was a testament to the profound impact he had on his community. 

Among the mourners were prominent figures such as Senator Aminu Iya Abbas (Adamawa Central), the Speaker of the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bathiya Wesley, and countless political leaders and citizens who came to pay their last respects.  

The sight of these respected individualsalong with thousands of others overcome with uncontrollable tears was a heartbreaking reminder of the deep loss suffered. The solidarity and widespread sorrow following his passing speak volumes about the kind of man Thomas was: humble, deeply connected to the people, and a positive force in the lives of many. 

While we mourn, we must also demand justice. To those responsible for this heinous act, may they never know peace. My fervent prayer is that they are exposed and face consequences far more severe than death. The authorities must leave no stone unturned in investigating this crime and ensuring that every individual involved especially those with a history of issuing threats, both online and offline is brought to justice.  

This incident is not isolated. Sadly, politically motivated violence and threats have become a disturbing trend among some youths in Adamawa. If left unchecked, this culture of impunity could set a dangerous precedent, extending beyond politics and poisoning other aspects of public life.  

To my fellow young people engaged in politics: choose your alliances wisely. Political involvement should be a path to progress, not destruction. Many of today’s leaders started from humble beginnings, but Thomas’s story serves as a painful reminder of the risks that come with blind loyalty and unchecked aggression.  

His sacrifice, dedication, and loyalty have now been recognized though tragically, only in death. Let his legacy be a wake-up call for all of us to demand better, to act with integrity, and to reject violence in all forms.
