Bishop Mamza Donates 93 Wheelchairs to People Living With Disabilities in Yola, Sparks Jubilation

Yola, Nigeria – March 6, 2025

A wave of joy and gratitude swept through Yola on Tuesday as Most Rev. Bishop Stephen Dami Mamza of the Yola Catholic Diocese donated 93 wheelchairs to People Living With Disabilities (PLWD). The event, held at the Catholic Secretariat in Yola, was marked by emotional moments as beneficiaries received the life-changing gifts, which promise to enhance their mobility and independence.

The donation was made possible through the generosity of the Knights of Columbus, a global humanitarian organization. Bishop Mamza explained that the diocese had reached out to the organization for assistance, and the Knights of Columbus responded by providing the high-quality, durable wheelchairs. He emphasized the significant investment involved in procuring and shipping the wheelchairs, urging beneficiaries to use and maintain them properly to ensure longevity.

During the distribution ceremony, Bishop Mamza highlighted the transformative impact of the wheelchairs, stating, "These wheelchairs are strong, durable, and comfortable. If used properly, they will significantly improve the lives of the beneficiaries, easing their mobility challenges and reducing the hardships they face daily."

The event was filled with heartfelt expressions of gratitude from beneficiaries, many of whom have struggled with mobility impairments for years. Mr. John Anthony, Assistant Secretary of the Association of People Living with Disabilities, spoke on behalf of the recipients, thanking Bishop Mamza for his unwavering support for marginalized groups. He described the donation as timely and called on wealthy individuals and the government to increase support for PLWDs, advocating for a more inclusive society.

"This gesture could not have come at a better time," Anthony remarked. "Bishop Mamza has always been a pillar of support for the less privileged, and his continuous efforts to improve the lives of the underserved deserve the highest commendation."

The event concluded with prayers of appreciation for Bishop Mamza and the Knights of Columbus, as beneficiaries vowed to make good use of the wheelchairs. The donation not only provided physical relief but also restored hope and dignity to those who received the life-changing gift.

This act of kindness underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing the challenges faced by people living with disabilities and serves as a call to action for increased support and inclusivity in society.
