Lutheran Convention Celebrates Centennial, Urges Youth to Harness Social Media Positively

Deputy Governor Professor Kaletapwa Farauta has called on young people to avoid the negative use of social media and instead leverage the platform to spread the gospel and drive development. She issued this advice during her keynote address at the centennial celebration of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN), held at the Covenant Ground in Demsa, Adamawa State.

The event, themed *"You are the Light of the World,"* drew members of the LCCN and other Christian denominations from across Adamawa, Nigeria, and beyond. The gathering provided an opportunity for attendees to reflect on the church’s journey, strengthen their faith, and renew their commitment to Christ.

In her speech, Professor Farauta warned that the misuse of social media could threaten security, peace, unity, and development. She urged the youth to become agents of positive change and expressed gratitude for the prayers offered by the faithful for leaders, the state, and the nation. She also emphasized the importance of unity among Christians, encouraging them to remain a unifying force in society.

Archbishop Musa Panti Filibus of the LCCN echoed these sentiments, calling for a renewed focus on theological education and leadership development. He stressed the need for leaders to serve with wisdom and integrity, particularly in a time when religion is often exploited to incite violence, hatred, and personal gain. Reflecting on the centennial theme, Archbishop Filibus described the 100-year milestone as a testament to God’s faithfulness and urged the congregation to look toward a future marked by deeper faith, stronger mission, and greater unity.

He also paid tribute to the founders of the church, praising their courage, resilience, and commitment, which laid the foundation for future generations. While acknowledging the church’s progress, he highlighted ongoing challenges and called for prayers to address corruption, transform political and social systems, and restore peace in Nigeria.
